My name is Matt Pelc and I have had a passion for sports for as long as I can remember, most notably Detroit sports. I can remember pouring over the Free Press sports section as a kid reading up on all the news of the Detroit Tigers, my true passion at the time.

When it became clear that my .220 average in Little League would not allow me my dream job of being a ballplayer, I decided that I wanted to become the beat writer for the Tigers using my passion for baseball and the Tigers along with my one and only God given talent–writing.

As time went on, I began to follow other sports, most notably football and the Lions (that and the Tigers went in the tank for 15 years) would rival my love for baseball and the Tigers.

Throughout high school I knew that I wanted to write and the best way to do that was going to college for journalism. Nearing the end of college, I realized I was not a big fan of the media in general and I absolutely loathed the interviewing of subjects required to be a journalist. So I set off in another career path.

In April 2002, I graduated with a B.S. in Journalism/Communications from from Eastern Michigan University in 2002 and began to work in bankruptcy. A few years later, I began to dabble in freelance writing as a side job.

After doing that for about a year, in 2008, I moved with my family to Florida and began a full-time career in freelance writing. Shortly after relocating, I combined my expertise in bankruptcy and writing to publish my very first book: “When You Have to File for Bankruptcy: Step-by-Step Instructions for Taking Control of Your Financial Future.”

In 2009, I decided to put my love of sports to work on my very own blog, JLABANNERS.com.

Even though I left Michigan behind, the one thing I could not kick was my love of the sports from my home state. I followed the Lions through their disastrous 0-16 season with the NFL Sunday Ticket and am currently following the Tigers through the 2009 season on  MLB Extra Innings. I was as proud as any other Michigander a year ago when the Red Wings hoisted their 11th Stanley Cup and just as disappointed when they lost in Game 7 this past year while watching or listening on XM Satellite Radio to every playoff game.

Living in Florida, sports news is hard to find–even for the native teams, so I always stay in touch through the internet and what little coverage ESPN offers for teams outside the East Coast. All along I wanted to do a little something more to talk about and keep others up to date on the teams from Michigan.

In addition to writing for a living, I wrote for a few sports sites for pure hobby. Although great things were promised, ultimately, I was just writing for myself. While I loved writing on these sites, no one else was ever truly committed and although I was proud of my work (for free no less), I grew tired of the lies and unfulfilled promises which were given in exchange for my hard work and time.

So after months of not blogging because of being burned and burned out, the itch finally started to come back and I thought the time was right to began to write about sports again.  Unlike last time, though, I wanted to control the site so that no one could take what I do for granted and there will be no broken promises or lies this time around.

So with a little help from my more internet savvy–and eight months pregnant–wife, we decided to launch what I hope will become one of the top sites of dissection on all things Detroit sports!

I may be thousands of miles away now and love my life in Florida, but I will always be a Michigander, at least in terms of my rooting interests. Go Lions, Tigers, Wings, Pistons, Michigan and MSU!
